Essays on the Gita
गीता प्रबन्धाः
A philosopher's reading of the Gita
Sri Aurobindo's long meditation on the Bhagavad Gītā — the First Series (1916–18) and the Second Series (1918–20), from The Complete Works of Sri Aurobindo.
About these essays
"The Gita is not a weapon for dialectical warfare; it is a gate opening on the whole world of spiritual truth and experience."
Written between 1916 and 1920, the Essays on the Gita read the teaching of Krishna not as a scholastic system but as a living synthesis of works, devotion and knowledge. Sri Aurobindo returns again and again to the central demand of the Gita: an integral surrender of the whole being to the Divine, and a divine action carried out in the world rather than a flight from it.
